Farmer stays busy despite delay

STRAWN – Local farmers were busy working out in the fields before the current wet weather system arrived.

Craig Davis is one of those farmers. He worked ground near Strawn in Livingston County early last week before planting a few days later.

“It’s still plenty wet underneath,” Davis admitted.

Davis would like to see a nice rally in the grain markets this year and is hopeful for a successful 2019 once fields dry out again. Davis also raises steers for meat and is involved with the family marketing business, Crop Side Marketing which teaches farmers different strategies on how to better market their grain.

The Prairie Central FFA chapter benefited from Davis’ donation of a quarter beef to the recent FFA auction fundraiser.

“I spent four years in (FFA) when I was in high school so I like to give back.”

All of the Davis daughters are becoming more involved on the farm as they get older, helping with chores and enjoying the calves.

For more information on the meat or marketing business, contact Davis at 815-848-5554.
