SPRINGFIELD – There were 1.5 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending April 21, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report for Illinois which was issued Monday afternoon.

Statewide, the average temperature was 53.9 degrees, 0.6 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 1.11 inches, 0.16 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent short, 45 percent adequate, and 54 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent short, 51 percent adequate, and 48 percent surplus.

Corn planted reached 1 percent compared to 3 percent last year and 17 percent for the 5-year average. Winter wheat headed was 2 percent, compared to 4 percent last year and the 5-year average of 6 percent. Winter wheat condition was rated 5 percent very poor, 10 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 50 percent good, and 5 percent excellent.
