Online auctions taking off

CHAMPAIGN – There always seems to be a need for used farm equipment which is why BigIron Auctions exists.

The online auction platform lists farm equipment, construction and various transportation items.

“If you have just one piece of equipment or a complete lineup, we can list your equipment and sell it online,” explained Mike Oelschlager, a BigIron sales representative. “We have 30,000-50,000 people on our website every week looking at equipment.”

Used equipment is selling well right now and BigIron can bring the audience to the buyer.

“There’s somebody looking for it somewhere,” Oelschlager adds.

The later model equipment is popular on the site. If it is in good shape and has been taken care of, an item can bring a premium price. Smaller equipment is moving down south into the southern United States or even Mexico.

“We are finding new homes for that late model ‘80s and 90s’ equipment,” said fellow sales representative Zackery Witvoet.
