GCMS celebrates FFA Week

GIBSON CITY – Friday’s sunshine and decent temperatures brought GCMS ag students outside during the lunch hour.
“We are cooking up pork chops to give to our teachers here at the school,” said GCMS FFA Historian Taylor Dueringer.
This has been a busy week at the high school with various activities such as interactive games over the lunch hours, trivia contests and an FFA assembly. Chapter reporter Shelby Butler was looking forward to Saturday’s silent and live auction fundraisers.
“All of this money that we raise goes to the betterment of our chapter through conferences and conventions we go to along with scholarships,” Butler explained.
Around 200 people were expected to attend this weekend’s auction.
Chapter President Ashlyn McPherson says they have been really active in career development events this year.
“We do horse judging and livestock judging will be coming up pretty shortly. We’ve also done dairy and agronomy.”
McPherson enjoys getting to work with the officer team and meeting new people is one of her favorite parts of FFA.
Jeff Reale is loving every minute of his first year as an FFA advisor and ag teacher at GCMS. The community is always willing to lend a hand and Reale and the chapter have strong alumni support.
“I’ve got wonderful kids, a supportive community and wonderful faculty and staff to work with.”
