Plenty of progress in weekly report

SPRINGFIELD – Fieldwork continued over the past week with rain in some parts of the state, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report issued Tuesday afternoon.

There were 5.5 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending May 27, 2018. Statewide, the average temperature was 73.5 degrees, 8.4 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.80 inches, 0.26 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 2 percent very short, 25 percent short, 69 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 2 percent very short, 22 percent short, 72 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus.

Corn emerged was at 89 percent, compared with 81 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated at 1 percent very poor, 2 percent poor, 14 percent fair, 52 percent good, and 31 percent excellent.

Soybeans planted was at 90 percent, compared to 60 percent last year and the 5- year average of 62 percent. Soybeans emerged was at 75 percent. Sorghum planted was at 50 percent.

Winter wheat headed reached 93 percent, compared to 97 percent last year and the 5-year average of 89 percent. Winter wheat condition was rated at 3 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 25 percent fair, 53 percent good, and 13 percent excellent.
