KidSmart Safety Day is returning to Livingston County! This event is scheduled for Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. -2:30 p.m. at Livingston County 4-H Park, Pontiac. KidSmart Safety Day is sponsored by Livingston County’s Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD), Farm Bureau, University of Illinois Extension, Health Department, USDA-Farm Service Agency, 1st Farm Credit Services, Prairie Central Co-Op, American Red Cross of the Heartland, and OSF St. James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center.
What is KidSmart Safety Day? It is a day-long event where children are placed in small, supervised groups to attend a variety of safety stations. These stations, conducted by trained safety presenters, provide information, demonstrations and hands-on activities on how to be safe at home, at school and at play.
Stations may include: water safety when boating, fishing or swimming; safety issues in the home; operating dos & don’ts of ATVs, using lawn equipment correctly; operating small power tools properly; being safe in and around farm machinery and grain handling equipment; safe use of hunting gear; and being safe around large & small animals. Children will also learn simple first-aid as they put together their own personal first-aid kit.
Who should attend? The day is for any child who will be entering grades 3 – 6 in the fall. Lunch is provided. Parents may also attend with their child if they desire. To cover expenses of guest presenters and materials, a $5 registration fee is being charged per child, with a maximum charge of $10 per family. Scholarships are available upon request. Children registered for the day will be given the first opportunity to attend. Camp registration is limited to the first 100 children.
