Senator calls for ag education funding
The chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee in Illinois is spreading the word on the importance of ag education.
State Senator Napoleon Harris, III, from the state’s 15th district, sent out a letter Friday saying “now is the time to be vocal for the agriculture community.” He urges residents to get involved by writing letters to the editor, contacting friends and neighbors and posting on social media.
The Senate voted last Tuesday to give $2.3 million to fund ag education programs.
“This is only one step toward implementing a budget and your help is needed and legislation continues to move through the process,” Harris’ letter stated.
Information on the entire budget package can be accessed on the Senate Democrats website. The plan still needs approval in the Illinois House and the signature of Gov. Bruce Rauner to take effect.
“That’s why I am asking you to get involved,” Harris added.
