NORMAL – The Illinois Corn Growers Association has named a new president.

Justin Durdan originally came on the board five years ago and has participated in trips to Washington, D.C. to lobby legislators. Hot topics since he has been on the board include water quality and nutrient management. Laying the groundwork for the next farm bill is the current major item under discussion.

“We are just trying to get the ball rolling on the farm bill so we don’t end up buying the eight ball again like we did last time,” Durdan said.

Durdan looks forward to the challenge of being ICGA president and says his time with an assigned mentor years ago has helped in his experiences.

“It feels great. It’s been a quick ride actually.”

Durdan’s multi-generational farming operation is based in Streator where he farms with his father. The Durdans grow corn, soybeans and some alfalfa.
