Weekly crop progress report


There were 5.7 days suitable for field work during the week ending July 30, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report issued for Illinois Monday.


Statewide, the average temperature was 79.8 degrees, 5 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.95 inches, 0.08 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 17 percent very short, 30 percent short, 51 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 15 percent very short, 32 percent short, 52 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus.


Corn silking reached 95 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 88 percent. Corn dough reached 35 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 38 percent. Corn condition was rated 7 percent very poor, 12 percent poor, 32 percent fair, 42 percent good, and 7 percent excellent.


Soybeans blooming reached 89 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 76 percent. Soybeans setting pods reached 59 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 46 percent. Soybean condition was rated 8 percent very poor, 12 percent poor, 34 percent fair, 39 percent good, and 7 percent excellent.
