View from the Cab: The future is here
By: Kent Casson
Excitement is about to come to a farm field near you as driverless technology will be demonstrated by Raven OMNiDRIVE.
Jenner Precision of Fairbury will host an Autonomy Demo Day July 20 with sessions offered in the morning or afternoon with a ribeye lunch provided. The day will include presentations along with the in-field demo. Both the Jenner and Raven technology teams will be able to answer questions.
This autonomous platform allows ag professionals to perform multiple farm tasks simultaneously without a driver. OMNiDRIVE is Raven’s aftermarket technology kit which transforms existing tractors into driverless machines. A farmer can operate a driverless tractor from the cab of the combine to unload on the go and return the tractor and grain cart to a predetermined unloading area – all without a second driver.
I caught a glimpse of this impressive technology at the Farm Progress Show in Decatur two years ago. It is still hard for me to comprehend a tractor and grain cart traveling across the field without anyone inside operating the machine. This appears to be the way of the future.
Jenner is one of only two dealers in the state to offer Raven’s newly introduced OMNi brand of autonomous solutions.
“It is truly something to see a tractor driven and operated by a farmer from the combine cab,” said Jenner Precision location manager Bryan Fehr. “It really opens up new doors for farmers to impact their labor, efficiency and of course their bottom lines.”

We actually took some vacation time last week ahead of the busy summer fair season as the Livingston County Ag Fair is coming right up. It was quality family time you can’t put a price tag on.
