NPB advocates for pork industry
The National Pork Board has several areas of focus for 2023.
They want to make sure they are promoting products but also the pork industry, putting the producers out front. Another item of importance is keeping foreign animal disease out of the country. NBP is also focusing on sustainability. The industry is less than one-half of a percent of greenhouse gas emissions in the country and most people don’t realize that.
“We are out here to make sure the producer’s story is getting told so consumers should feel very comfortable about buying pork,” explained Bill Even, Chief Operating Officer for the National Pork Board.
On the producer side for beef, pork and poultry, everyone is paying close attention to feed costs.
“Labor is always an issue as well and certainly making sure we keep foreign animal diseases out of the United States to keep our animals healthy,” added Even.
The National Pork Board goes coast-to-coast since there are 42 state pork associations to cover. NPB is the funding arm to do the research, promotion and education for the U.S. pork industry.
“That money is allocated by our 15-member farmer board and we’ll do a lot of science research, kind of independent third party work others can use to advance the industry.”
