Harvest ramps up for Wentworth

DOWNS – McLean County farmer Dennis Wentworth expects plenty of soybeans to be cut this week because of all the nice weather in the forecast.
Wentworth started his 2020 harvest season last week and hopes he already harvested his worst field which had water damage and replant.
“That field was disappointing,” Wentworth told The Central Illinois Farm Network. “The beans have been okay but nothing spectacular.”
Corn moisture has still been fairly high and despite July wind storms, Wentworth was able to pick the corn up really well. Some later season rains have benefitted the crops and not everyone received the rain.
“We were hoping to be harvesting by the middle of September but here we are in the first full week of October and this will really be our first full week of heavy-duty harvest.”
Since farmers can roll through the harvest pretty fast these days, Wentworth is hopeful for the nice weather ahead and hopes there is no repeat of last year when there was snow on the ground in early November with freezing temperatures.
