First weekly report of season issued

SPRINGFIELD – There were 0.8 days suitable for field work during the week ending April 3, in the very first weekly crop progress and weather report of the season for Illinois.


Statewide, the average temperature was 41.1 degrees, 6.5 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 1.66 inches, 0.71 inches above normal. USDA-NASS reports topsoil moisture supply was rated 5 percent short, 53 percent adequate, and 42 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 2 percent very short, 6 percent short, 61 percent adequate, and 31 percent surplus.


Winter wheat condition was rated 9 percent very poor, 22 percent poor, 21 percent fair, 35 percent good, and 13 percent excellent.
