SPRINGFIELD – Statewide, the average temperature in December was 32.6 degrees, 2.8 degrees above normal, according to information released this week by USDA-NASS.


Precipitation for the month averaged 1.75 inches, 0.94 inches below normal. As of January 3, 2021 topsoil moisture supply was rated 3 percent very short, 9 percent short, 71 percent adequate, and 17 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 5 percent very short, 17 percent short, 65 percent adequate, and 13 percent surplus.


Winter wheat condition was rated 17 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 25 percent fair, 42 percent good, and 8 percent excellent.
