Corn harvest at 4%, soybeans 1%


There were 6.5 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending September 20, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report for Illinois issued Monday.

Statewide, the average temperature was 62.5 degrees, 3.1 degrees below normal. There was no measurable precipitation reported across the state. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 9 percent very short, 27 percent short, 61 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus.

Subsoil moisture supply was rated 8 percent very short, 27 percent short, 63 percent adequate, and 2 surplus.

Corn dented was 98 percent compared to the 5-year average of 92 percent. Corn mature was 53 percent compared to the 5-year average of 60 percent. Corn harvested for grain was 4 percent compared to the 5-year average of 11 percent. Corn condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 19 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 17 percent excellent.

Soybeans turning color was at 73 percent, even with the 5-year average. Soybeans dropping leaves was at 44 percent compared to the 5-year average of 43 percent. Soybean harvested was 1 percent compared to the 5-year average of 4 percent. Soybean condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 22 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 15 percent excellent.
