Weekly crop progress report issued

SPRINGFIELD – There were 5.8 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending July 5, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report issued for Illinois on Monday.

Statewide, the average temperature was 78.3 degrees, 3.7 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.37 inches, 0.38 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 3 percent very short, 26 percent short, 66 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus.

Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 2 percent very short, 22 percent short, 74 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus.

Corn silking was at 10 percent compared to the 5-year average of 28 percent. Corn condition was rated at 2 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 31 percent fair, 48 percent good, and 13 percent excellent.

Soybeans blooming reached 22 percent compared to the 5-year average of 24 percent. Soybeans setting pods was at 1 percent compared to the 5-year average of 3 percent. Soybeans condition was rated at 2 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 29 percent fair, 48 percent good, and 15 percent excellent.

Winter wheat harvested was at 82 percent compared to the previous year at 66 percent and the 5-year average of 81 percent.
