Young people in Illinois will still have a chance to show their animals this summer even during a time when many shows and fairs have been canceled due to the pandemic.

The Illinois Department of Agriculture announced this week the dates for junior livestock and horse shows. Springfield will be the site of the Junior Livestock Expo during two weekends in September. Sheep, beef, goats and rabbits will be shown September 11-13 while swine, dairy cattle and meat goats will be shown September 18-20.

The DuQuoin State Fairgrounds will host a junior horse show which covers two different weekends: August 29-30 and September 5-6. English will show the first weekend with Western the following weekend.

Livestock entry fees will vary, depending on species. Beef cattle have a $20 fee while $15 will be charged for swine, sheep, dairy cattle and goats. Rabbits and poultry will be charged $1.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker canceled the two state fairs back on June 12 due to COVID-19.
