SPRINGFIELD – There were 3.1 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending April 5, according to the very first crop progress and condition report of the season issued Monday.

Statewide, the average temperature was 47.6 degrees, 0.4 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.09 inches, 0.70 inches below normal.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 71 percent adequate and 29 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 4 percent short, 67 percent adequate, and 29 percent surplus.

Winter wheat condition was rated 4 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 44 percent good, and 18 percent excellent.
