More corn, soybean acres in state


The state’s planting intentions and grain stocks were revealed Tuesday by USDA-NASS.

Illinois Prospective Plantings:

Corn growers intend to plant 11.3 million acres in 2020, up 8 percent from 2019. Soybean planted area is expected to total 10.5 million acres, up 6 percent from the previous year.

Winter wheat area seeded last fall is estimated at 570,000 acres, down 12 percent from the previous year. Area planted to oats is expected to total 100,000 acres, up 43 percent from 2019. Producers intend to harvest 480,000 acres of all hay in 2020, up 14 percent from last year.

Illinois Grain Stocks:

Corn stocks in all positions on March 1, 2020 totaled 1.23 billion bushels, down 21 percent from March 1, 2019. On-farm stocks totaled 530 million bushels, while off-farm stocks totaled 696 million bushels.

The December 2019 - February 2020 indicated disappearance is 544 million bushels. Soybean stocks in all positions on March 1, 2020 totaled 385 million bushels, down 22 percent from March 1, 2019. On-farm stocks totaled 155 million bushels, while off-farm stocks totaled 230 million bushels.

The December 2019 - February 2020 indicated disappearance is 202 million bushels. All wheat stocks in all positions on March 1, 2020 totaled 15.2 million bushels, down 42 percent from March 1, 2019. On-farm stocks totaled 1.40 million bushels, while off-farm stocks totaled 13.8 million bushels. The December 2019 - February 2020 indicated disappearance is 8.18 million bushels.
