View from the Cab: Looking to the future

There are many factors currently impacting the markets like world health fears over the coronavirus, trade issues with China and uncertainty over spring weather.

Get your marketing questions answered and find out where corn and soybean prices may go in 2020 by attending our annual Central Illinois Farm Network Ag Outlook Meeting next week. The meeting will be held in Bloomington on Thursday, Mar. 12 at the Asmark Center located along Route 9 west of town. We begin with a free dinner at 5:30 p.m. followed by the presentation.

Our presenters this year include Merrill Crowley with Midwest Market Solutions in Watseka, Ellen Dearden of AgReview in Morton and Dale Durchholz, retired analyst from Agrivisor in Bloomington. These three are highly respected in the industry as many often listen closely to what they have to say about agriculture.

The spring planting intentions report from USDA isn’t far off and the analysts will likely share a preview of things to come. Thanks to our co-sponsors: Prairie Central Cooperative and First Farmers State Bank for helping with the event. Reserve your spot by calling 217-530-3107 or by e-mail at: cassonmedia@yahoo.com.

I am also the emcee at an Agronomy Day discussion this Thursday (Mar. 5) at the Connection Center in downtown Chatsworth. We are looking forward to hearing from numerous speakers on very timely agronomic topics related to seed, chemicals and the soil. Sessions will be held in the morning and afternoon with lunch in between.

We had a great time celebrating National FFA Week as we started off by covering the FFA auctions at Pontiac and GCMS and ended the week at the annual Prairie Central FFA Farm and Home Show in Forrest. It was great seeing everyone and thanks for stopping by the Central Illinois Farm Network broadcast booth for freebies and conversation at the show.

This Saturday is the 12th annual Flanagan-Cornell FFA Alumni Auction with a greenhouse tour starting at 4:30 p.m. The Ridgeview FFA Auction is the same night with a meal, silent auction and live auction at Ridgeview High School in Colfax. See you there!
