MELVIN – Producers should take a hard look at their individual operations from a technology standpoint.
Technology expert Chad Colby, with Colby Ag Tech, suggests having a list of priorities of where you want to invest.
“When you’re doing applications of anything to do with fertility or seeding, put some trials in on your farm and try some things a little different,” Colby said during a meeting last week hosted by RA Seeding Solutions near Melvin.
Colby feels there is a huge response to some of the new technologies out there and farmers don’t know it unless they try it.
Many growers are still exhausted from the long 2019 season as some worked well into December with harvest. Farmers are starting to get geared back up again for a new growing season ever so slowly.
“The reality is, it’s February and we are going to be planting corn here inside of 60 days,” said Colby.
During the RA Seeding Solutions meeting on Randy Aberle’s farm, Colby had a technology review for those in attendance. He explained the importance of getting smart devices updated and displayed new drone equipment.
“There is some V-tall technology, that’s a drone that takes off like a quad copter and becomes and airplane so you can cover more acres.”
Colby is impressed with winter ag meeting season so far as seats are full at many events for growers to learn a few things to take back to the farm.
