View from the Cab: My favorite time

Christmas is always one of my favorite times of the year. In fact, I always enjoy winter.

Nothing beats the view of fresh snow on the ground like we had last week with the bright sun shining down over the Central Illinois fields. The house seems to be full of extra daylight on these wintry days which makes us all feel good.

During this most joyous time of the year, let’s all remember the reason for the season as it is about much more than ordering holiday packages or browsing stores for the latest holiday steals and deals. Christ came into this world to bring everyone joy and peace while proclaiming the good news.

Christmas in my world means togetherness with family and friends, celebrating over a nice meal, attending the candlelight church service on Christmas Eve and seeing the magic of the season through a child’s eyes. May we all experience that same awe and wonder this year.

It may not have been the greatest season for those of us in agriculture, but we can certainly count our blessings. We made it through another challenging time for farming and remain optimistic that 2020 will treat us better. We will soon start over with a clean slate for the New Year – let’s make the most of it.

I’m looking forward to seeing the faces on our kids Christmas morning is they hurry down the stairs. Our youngest daughter, Kaislee, is at a fun age where she will start to feel the excitement too. She may not be walking yet, but she can sure scoot wherever she wants and that includes right up to the Christmas tree.

Depending on what the kids open this week, we may need to build an addition onto the house just for toys. I already told Kasen and Kenadee we could almost build a shed outside to house all of their tractors and other toys. The car trunk will likely be full as we return home Christmas night from a day of celebrations.

I leave you with this passage from the second chapter of Luke: “But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.’”
