SPRINGFIELD – There were 4.8 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending October 6, according to the weekly crop progress report for Illinois issued Monday.
Statewide, the average temperature was 66.8 degrees, 7.4 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.88 inches, 0.13 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 8 percent very short, 15 percent short, 57 percent adequate, and 20 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 9 percent very short, 15 percent short, 63 percent adequate, and 13 percent surplus.
Corn dented was at 91 percent. Corn mature was at 59 percent. Corn harvested for grain was at 13 percent, compared to 61 percent last year and 46 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was 5 percent very poor, 16 percent poor, 33 percent fair, 41 percent good, and 5 percent excellent.
Soybean coloring was at 88 percent. Soybean dropping leaves was at 65 percent. Soybean harvest was 11 percent complete, compared to 49 percent last year and 40 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean condition was 6 percent very poor, 14 percent poor, 37 percent fair, 38 percent good, and 5 percent excellent.
Winter wheat planted was at 19 percent, compared to 20 percent last year and 19 percent for the 5-year average.
