Weekly crop report issued

SPRINGFIELD – There were 5.7 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending September 15, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report for Illinois.

Statewide, the average temperature was 74.8 degrees, 6.5 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.16 inches, 0.37 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 12 percent very short, 25 percent short, 57 percent adequate, and 6 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 11 percent very short, 22 percent short, 61 percent adequate, and 6 percent surplus.

Corn dough was at 94 percent. Corn dented was at 67 percent, compared to 99 percent last year and 94 percent for the 5-year average. Corn mature was at 14 percent. Corn harvested for grain was at 1 percent. Corn condition was 5 percent very poor, 14 percent poor, 40 percent fair, 35 percent good, and 6 percent excellent.

Soybeans setting pods was at 93 percent. Soybean coloring was at 25 percent, compared to 85 percent last year and 67 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean dropping leaves was at 3 percent. Soybean condition was 8 percent very poor, 14 percent poor, 36 percent fair, 36 percent good, and 6 percent excellent.
