Weekly crop progress report
SPRINGFIELD – There were 5.4 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending August 18, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report issued Monday afternoon.
Statewide, the average temperature was 75.0 degrees, 1.1 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.55 inches, 0.66 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 11 percent very short, 40 percent short, 47 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 9 percent very short, 33 percent short, 57 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus.
Corn silking was at 96 percent. Corn dough was at 55 percent, compared to 93 percent last year and 88 percent for the 5-year average. Corn dented was at 12 percent, compared to 60 percent last year and 43 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was 4 percent very poor, 15 percent poor, 39 percent fair, 37 percent good, and 5 percent excellent.
Soybeans blooming was at 89 percent. Soybeans setting pods was at 67 percent, compared to 94 percent last year and 88 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean condition was 5 percent very poor, 15 percent poor, 40 percent fair, 34 percent good, and 6 percent excellent.
