SPRINGFIELD – There were 4.8 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending June 16, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report for Illinois issued Monday.

Statewide, the average temperature was 66.2 degrees, 5.7 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 1.48 inches, 0.50 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 2 percent short, 62 percent adequate, and 36 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 2 percent short, 57 percent adequate, and 41 percent surplus.

Corn planted was at 88 percent, compared to 100 percent for both last year and 5-year average. Corn emerged was at 74 percent. Corn condition was 4 percent very poor, 11 percent poor, 34 percent fair, 45 percent good, and 6 percent excellent.

Soybeans planted was at 70 percent, compared to 99 percent last year and the 5-year average of 95 percent. Soybeans emerged was at 50 percent.

Winter wheat headed reached 97 percent. Winter wheat harvested was 6 percent, compared to 26 percent for last year and 21 percent for the 5-year average. Winter wheat condition was rated at 8 percent very poor, 14 percent poor, 45 percent fair, 29 percent good, and 4 percent excellent.
