President Trump has apparently suspended plans to impose tariffs on Mexico.
The State Department released a “U.S.-Mexico Joint Declaration” which says the U.S. will expand the implementation of a program that returns asylum-seekers crossing the border to Mexico. The agreement states Mexico will offer healthcare, jobs and education to those individuals.
Mexico is also reportedly taking steps to increase enforcement to cut down on irregular migration. The country is also taking steps to disrupt human trafficking groups along with their transportation and financial connections.
This announcement was far different from a statement given by a Trump spokesperson earlier in the day which said the tariffs were going on as planned Monday.
