Coliseum work continues
Crews continue to work long shifts to finish renovations at the State Fair Coliseum in time for this summer's fair.
Pieces of the roof were replaced last week, according to the Springfield State Journal-Register newspaper. The venue closed in 2016 after engineers found it to be structurally unsafe, meaning it has been closed for the past two State Fairs.
The Coliseum was built in 1901 and has hosted horse shows and other events over the years. A Springfield company won the repair bid at $10.2 million which will address the structural issues. The Illinois Fairgrounds Foundation is accepting donations to help with costs associated with ventilation, heating and air conditioning work.
