View from the Cab: Blessed

Rebecca and Kent Casson with their newest blessing, Kaislee BeccaJane, born Oct. 29 / CIFN photo.

Our sweet little Kaislee BeccaJane is here and we couldn’t be happier.

Rebecca and I became parents to our third child last week and big brother Kasen and big sister Kenadee are thrilled. Everyone is doing great and Miss Kaislee weighed eight pounds, seven ounces and was 21 inches long. The kids couldn’t wait to get to the hospital to see their new baby sister who was born at 7:53 a.m. on Oct. 29. This is exactly one month after Rebecca’s birthday, four weeks after Kenadee’s and three weeks after mine. Kasen’s big day is coming up Nov. 8. Kaislee’s middle name is a combination of her mommy’s and grammy’s.

We are adjusting to life as a family of five at home. The household is a bit noisier but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Kaislee has plenty of action to watch in the house as her older siblings are always running around giving her free entertainment. She arrived just in time to wear the little football costume Mommy ordered for Halloween to match the Illini cheerleader and football player.

Kaislee was actually due Oct. 19 but decided she didn’t want to come into the world until more than a week later. I think she was actually waiting for us to get done with harvest before coming too soon. It was actually the perfect time to have a baby when all of the crops were out of the field and we wouldn’t have to worry about when or how we would get out there again. I thought all along we should be fairly close to finishing up or even already done once our baby arrived.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words after Kaislee’s birth. I know many people were waiting to hear the official news. I couldn’t go anywhere without being asked when the baby is coming. The Facebook world was happy to see newborn photos posted by late Monday as many were pondering whether we would have a boy or girl since we didn’t find out the gender beforehand.

Our hearts are full and November is off to an amazing start. We can’t wait to see what the future brings for this little one and the rest of our family.
