State harvest rolls on despite weather

There were 3.4 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending October 14, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report issued Monday.

 

Statewide, the average temperature was 56.6 degrees, 0.8 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.19 inches, 0.65 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 2 percent very short, 7 percent short, 78 percent adequate, and 13 percent surplus.

 

Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 3 percent very short, 9 percent short, 79 percent adequate, and 9 percent surplus.

 

Corn harvested was at 71 percent, compared to 46 percent last year. Soybeans dropping leaves was at 96 percent, compared to 93 percent last year. Soybean harvest was 60 percent complete, compared to 61 percent last year. Sorghum mature reached 95 percent, compared to 87 percent last year. Sorghum harvested was at 73 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 50 percent.

Winter wheat planted was at 36 percent, compared to 48 percent last year.

 

Winter wheat emerged was at 15 percent, compared to 11 percent last year.
