SPORTS CENTRAL: Mustangs over EPG
LEXINGTON – Friday night’s constant wind and rain didn’t prevent a good football game in Lexington.
Ridgeview-Lexington defeated El Paso-Gridley 20-16. The Mustangs rallied from a 10 point deficit to take the lead in the fourth. EPG had a great start as they jumped out to the early lead but turnovers and botched exchanges hurt them. Ridgeview-Lexington took advantage of the situation and came up big down the stretch as Ryan Benton scored two of their touchdowns.
Tate Walcott’s 70-yard run went all the way in during the final three minutes of the game and was one of the great runs we will likely see this high school football season.
“Certainly, El Paso-Gridley failed to capitalize on some chances and that has to sting here tonight as they take their first loss – especially with a number of their key players out of the lineup tonight,” said Eric Stock, the play-by-play voice for CIFN Sports Central this season.
The next stop for CIFN Sports Central presented by the Precision Planting PTI Farm at Pontiac will be Fairbury next Friday night (Sept. 14) as Prairie Central battles Pontiac in the Livingston County rivalry game. We’ll have live coverage on the Central Illinois Farm Network Facebook page at 7 p.m. with a pre-game tailgate live at 6:15 talking with FFA students and others involved with the Prairie Central ag program.
