View from the Cab: A new look at sports
Nothing belongs together more than Friday night football and local agriculture.
How many times have you attended the local high school game under the lights during a harvest evening in September and October? Fans can cheer on their favorite team while hearing the hard-working farmers in a nearby field working well after sunset.
This idea of blending high school sports and ag led to the creation of “CIFN Sports Central” from The Central Illinois Farm Network. Not only are we providing coverage of area high school games on Friday nights via Facebook live and the website, www.centralillinoisfarmnetwork.com, but we are also drawing attention to the fine FFA chapters and ag programs at these schools.
We will be interviewing kids an hour before game time on social media in a small tailgate-like atmosphere near the main gate of the football fields. Stop by to say hi or even win some cool prizes. While you drop by, you will also have the chance to show your support for the FFA programs by donating to the chapter or simply giving the students a nice pat on the back for a job well done throughout the year.
Here are the matchups we will be featuring during the regular season starting this Friday night. These games are in The Central Illinois Farm Network’s coverage area:
Aug. 24 GCMS at PBL
Aug. 31 Tolony Unity at PTHS
Sep. 7 EPG vs. Ridgeview-Lexington at Lexington
Sep. 14 PTHS at Prairie Central
Sep. 21 Watseka at Dwight-Gardner-South Wilmington
Sep. 28 FCW vs. LeRoy
Oct. 5 Danville at Normal Community
Oct. 12 St. Joseph Ogden at Olympia
Oct. 19 Watseka at Iroquois West
