Potential there despite disease

LEXINGTON – Despite some disease pressure, yield potential looks good according to Jason McArdle who manages the Brandt Consolidated Lexington location.

“We did have some disease in corn – quite a bit of gray leaf spot and a lot of guys did make a foliar application of fungicide,” McArdle said at this week’s Brandt field day. “Soybean diseases really haven’t been as prevalent.”

McArdle encourages growers to continue scouting fields for weed pressure as we enter the home stretch for crops. He believes the best way to eliminate weeds is to make sure you don’t have any in the first place. McArdle also suggests planning for fall by looking at soil tests and talking with your retailer to put a plan in place.

“We never know what the weather is going to be like in the fall so it’s always better to be prepared.”
