Excitement builds for yield potential

LEXINGTON – Those in the ag industry are excited about the yield potential for corn and soybeans come fall.

Even though commodity prices are not where most want them to be, the yields should be there, according to Yale Young with Brandt Consolidated.

“The opportunity to have the bushels out there this year is I think as great as it has been in a long time,” the area field advisor said.

With summer work winding down, this is the time to focus on upcoming fall decisions. If you had a soil test done, go over those results with a trusted advisor to get those fall fertilizer plans in place.

“It’s time to have those plans together before harvest because I really think we are going to have an early harvest with the growing degree units we’ve had. This corn is going to come out earlier than a lot of guys expect,” Young added.

Growers have plenty of decisions to make when it comes to 2019 seed platforms as well, such as Liberty, Dicamba or non-GMO. Young suggests evaluating your seed program from both a yield and disease standpoint.

These topics and other agronomy talking points will be covering during the Brandt Ag Day planned for Wednesday (July 25) at the Lexington Research Farm east of town. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with the meeting at 8:00.
