PONTIAC – A father/son duo known for their contributions to local agriculture will be grand marshals of this year’s Threshermen’s Parade in Pontiac Labor Day weekend.

Gene Swartz started working for Wilken Seeds in 1952 and later bought the business. His son, Doug, started working there in the early 1970s, eventually becoming vice president. Doug continued working at the business beyond 2010 when Beck’s Hybrids bought the facility in McDowell.

The theme for this year’s parade on Sunday, Sept. 2 is “Honoring Our Farmers.”
