FIELD UPDATE: Ford County

June 26, 2018

MELVIN – Crops are growing fast and appear to be off to a good start in Ford County.

“The corn looks good right now but the beans have had some issues,” said Bob Miller, who farms near Melvin with his son.

Many soybean fields are showing the effects of being sprayed during hot, humid weather. The area Miller farms typically has problems if there is a two or three inch rain since it is not well drained. This leads to drowned-out areas.

“Overall, I suppose of the amount of acres we farm, we’ve only had to replant about 10 percent at the most. That was just in beans – we didn’t have to replant any corn,” Miller added.

Miller reminds other farmers that there is a lot of time between now and harvest.
