Weekly crop report issued

SPRINGFIELD – Fieldwork continued over the past week with rains in some parts of the state, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report issued Monday.

There were 5.3 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending June 10. Statewide, the average temperature was 72.7 degrees, 3.0 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.17 inches, 0.28 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 3 percent very short, 15 percent short, 66 percent adequate, and 16 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 2 percent very short, 17 percent short, 72 percent adequate, and 9 percent surplus.

Corn emerged was at 95 percent, compared with 95 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated at 1 percent very poor, 2 percent poor, 15 percent fair, 55 percent good, and 27 percent excellent.

Soybeans planted was at 96 percent, compared to 92 percent last year and the 5-year average of 85 percent. Soybeans emerged was at 90 percent. Soybeans condition was rated at 2 percent poor, 15 percent fair, 62 percent good, and 21 percent excellent.

Sorghum planted was at 86 percent. Sorghum condition was rated at 6 percent poor, 26 percent fair, 59 percent good, and 9 percent excellent. Winter wheat harvest was 1 percent complete, compared to the 5-year average of 4 percent. Winter wheat condition was rated at 3 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 21 percent fair, 54 percent good, and 17 percent excellent.
