China imposes sorghum tariff

China has imposed a tariff on sorghum after an investigation which supposedly found unfairly subsidized shipments damaging Chinese producers.
The country imports about $1 billion per year worth of sorghum from the U.S. The cereal grain is mostly produced in the southern U.S. The Chinese Commerce Ministry announced Tuesday that customs officers will charge importers a fee of almost 177 percent on sorghum.
Sorghum is used as livestock feed and is part of a liquor which is popular among Chinese drinkers.
