Growers wait to get back into field

COOKSVILLE – Ag retailers and farmers had a decent weather window prior to the recent snow and rain events to apply dry fertilizer and work ground in some locations.

That fieldwork came to a sudden halt due to the weather, says Doug Matlock, plant manager for the Brandt Consolidated Cooksville plant.

“Right now, we are pretty soggy so we are just going to get ourselves prepared for the next run.”

Matlock advises growers to make sure crop plans are finalized for 2018. Brandt is asking farmers to help the company identify neighboring fields in the coming season.

“Dicamba is still the hot topic and we’d like to know what surrounds their farm in the event we do spray dicamba. That way, we’ll know if there are any sensitive areas,” Matlock stated.

According to Matlock, Brandt is finishing up seed treatment and will soon be getting the seed out to customers. He wishes everyone a safe spring season. The Brandt Cooksville location can be reached at 309-725-3710.
