March saw fieldwork, cool temps
SPRINGFIELD – Field work is being done in preparation for planting, according to the March crop progress and condition report from USDA NASS.
Statewide, the average temperature in March was 37.5 degrees, 2.2 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 2.36 inches for the month, 0.01 inches below normal.
Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 2 percent very short, 5 percent short, 72 percent adequate, and 21 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture 2 percent very short, 17 percent short, 74 percent adequate, and 7 percent surplus.
Winter wheat condition 5 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 32 percent fair, 50 percent good, and 7 percent excellent.
