Those running for office in Livingston County participated in a candidate forum in Pontiac Tuesday night, hosted by The Central Illinois Farm Network, Livingston County Farm Bureau and WJEZ Radio.

Both men running for Livingston County sheriff looked to the future. Tony Childress expressed interest in enhancing and improving current programs while Jack Wiser noted the importance of partnering with schools, citizens and other departments.

“You can’t just start new things without doing the research on it,” Childress said.

“I have zero tolerance for drugs,” Wiser stated. “I have for the 25 years I’ve been in law enforcement.”

During closing remarks, Wiser said he would be available to citizens, county board members and other elected officials if he is elected sheriff while Childress pointed to his record of 27 years of “uninterrupted” service.

Livingston County Clerk, who is seeking re-election, highlighted her personal and professional life. She was appointed clerk in 2003 and has served ever since. Her office is responsible for maintaining records for many areas and presiding over elections.

Mary Nicole Meier, who is running for treasurer to replace Barb Sear, has worked in the treasurer’s office since 2001. She believes she is qualified for the job and said she would do her best to serve Livingston County taxpayers.

The Primary Election is March 20.
