Weather delays fall work

Harvest is largely complete throughout the state with wet weather delaying fall tillage and anhydrous ammonia application in the latest crop and weather report for Illinois.

There were 4.2 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending November 19. Statewide, the average temperature was 39.9 degrees, 2.3 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 1.17 inches, 0.46 inches above normal.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 8 percent short, 78 percent adequate, and 14 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 4 percent very short, 16 percent short, 77 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus.

Corn harvested for grain was 95 percent complete, compared to 98 for the 5-year average. Winter wheat emerged was at 92 percent, compared to 86 percent for the 5-year average.

Winter wheat condition was rated 5 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 47 percent good, and 14 percent excellent.

Pasture and range condition was rated 7 percent very poor, 11 percent poor, 46 percent fair, 34 percent good, and 2 percent excellent.
