Excess rain caused problems early in the season for many growers across Illinois, including Paul Rasmussen, Jr. who farms in DeKalb County in the northern part of the state.

Rasmussen’s crops were stressed from too much water for about the first three months of the growing season. It may have been hard to get the crop in the ground last spring, but overall, corn and soybeans look decent according to Rasmussen.

“We have to remember there are a lot of areas in the field where there was too much water, so that has to temper our enthusiasm a little bit.”

Rasmussen serves on the Illinois Soybean Board where he has been a director since August of 2012.
