Cool, dry conditions persist


Dry, cool weather continued across most of the state last week.

There 6.9 were days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending September 10, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report issued Monday.

Statewide, the average temperature was 63.2 degrees, 6.8 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.09 inches, 0.55 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 19 percent very short, 45 percent short, and 36 percent adequate. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 15 percent very short, 42 percent short, and 43 percent adequate.

Corn dented was at 82 percent, compared to 88 percent for the 5-year average. Corn mature was at 26 percent, compared to 39 percent last year. Corn harvested was at 2 percent. Corn condition was rated 4 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 32 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 10 percent excellent.

Soybeans coloring was at 47 percent, compared to 46 percent for the 5-year average. Soybeans dropping leaves was at 13 percent, compared to 12 percent last year. Soybean condition was rated 5 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 49 percent good, and 8 percent excellent.

Pasture and range condition was rated 9 percent very poor, 21 percent poor, 42 percent fair, 24 percent good, and 4 percent excellent.
