Keep scouting those fields

CHENOA – There are quite a few good looking crops in this area which must be protected right up to the end.

Dean Atkins of Atkins Seed Service based in rural Chenoa says southern rust has been observed in some cornfields.

“I urge guys to get out there and look,” Atkins told The Central Illinois Farm Network. “We don’t want to throw 20, 40 or 50 bushels away because you didn’t want to walk out in that hot cornfield in the summer.”

There are multiple types of diseases out there, but rust is often defined by orange dots on top of the leaves. If you suspect a problem, take a leaf to your local agronomist or field advisor.
