Open house planned for barn

July 1, 2017

The Illinois Livestock Development Group (ILDG) and Summit Livestock Facilities are coordinating an Open House for Ashton and Merlin Gronewold’s new deep-pack cow-calf monoslope barn. The Gronewolds are celebrating the opening of their new beef barn near Carthage on Friday, July 7.

Neighbors, community members, fellow beef producers, and anyone with an interest in learning more about modern beef production is invited to attend. Attendees can see the latest products and technologies for cattle comfort and environmental stewardship. The event is free and open to the public.

The Open House and Ribbon Cutting will be held from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm located at 2090 E. County Rd. 1600, Carthage, IL. A Ribbon Cutting will be held at 11:30 am. Attendees can tour the 100’ X 252’ monoslope barn built by Summit Livestock Facilities.

A FREE ribeye sandwich will be cooked and served by the Hancock County Beef Producers following the ribbon cutting.

Directions to the farm are as follows: From Carthage - Take Highway 336 east for 0.5 mile, turn left onto 2100 East Road, go 1 mile north to 1600 North Road, turn left. The farm will be on the right-hand side of the road.

ILDG is a coalition of Illinois ag groups committed to expanding and growing the livestock industry. ILDG members include: IL Beef Association, IL Corn Marketing Board, IL Farm Bureau, IL Milk Producers’ Association, IL Pork Producers Association, and IL Soybean Association checkoff program. Part of the on-going efforts of ILDG is to help tell the positive story of livestock in Illinois. One way to accomplish this is helping plan and coordinate Open Houses for new livestock farms.

Other sponsors of the event are: IL Beef Association & IL Beef Checkoff, Summit Livestock Facilities, AC McMartney, First State Bank of Illinois, Hancock and Carthage Vet Clinic, Quincy Farm Products and Ursa Farmers Coop.

This will be a great opportunity to tour a state-of-the-art cow-calf barn engineered to improve cattle comfort and performance and increase operational efficiencies. There will be cattle in the barn during the Open House. The event will also be a great chance to network with beef producers and beef industry representatives.
