Fair fun planned in Ford County

MELVIN – Some old favorites and new additions will be featured at this year’s Ford County Fair in Melvin to be held June 25-July 1.

This will be the fifth year of bringing in a big Nashville act as country singer Easton Corbin will perform Friday night June 30. A new fair highlight includes a lawn mower derby at the end of the week. The traditional queen pageant takes place Monday night and livestock shows will be held throughout the event.

“Ten years ago, the fair was kind of on a downhill slide and we’ve had some rejuvenation with great sponsorships throughout the county and outside the county as well,” explained Ford County Fair Board president Kirk Miller.

Miller admits the fair would not be possible without the numerous volunteers involved.

“Some of the local farmers have been mowing at the fairgrounds and doing cleanup for the last 45 days or so. Without their help, we couldn’t get things done.”
