Soybeans emerge in McLean County last week / CIFN photo

Producers continued planting corn and soybeans last week, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report issued for Illinois Tuesday.

There were 3.1 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending May 28. Statewide, the average temperature was 63.0 degrees, 2.2 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.74 inches, 0.34 inches below normal.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent short, 74 percent adequate, and 25 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent short, 78 percent adequate, and 21 percent surplus.

Corn planted was at 93 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 96 percent. Corn emerged was at 80 percent, compared to 86 percent last year. Corn condition was rated at 3 percent very poor, 12 percent poor, 33 percent fair, 44 percent good, and 8 percent excellent.

Soybeans planted was at 62 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 71 percent. Soybeans emerged was at 38 percent. Winter wheat headed reached 98 percent. Winter wheat condition was rated 5 percent very poor, 13 percent poor, 31 percent fair, 42 percent good, and 9 percent excellent.

Pasture and range condition was rated at 1 percent poor, 14 percent fair, 58 percent good, and 27 percent excellent.
