Planting, replanting continues

SPRINGFIELD – Producers continued planting soybeans last week while some began replanting corn.

 

There were 4.0 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending May 21. Statewide, the average temperature was 67.7 degrees, 3.1 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.61 inches, 0.73 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent short, 64 percent adequate, and 35 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent short, 71 percent adequate, and 28 percent surplus.

 

Corn planted was at 89 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 90 percent. Corn emerged was at 67 percent, compared to 75 percent last year and the 5-year average of 69 percent. Corn condition was rated at 3 percent very poor, 12 percent poor, 34 percent fair, 44 percent good, and 7 percent excellent. Soybeans planted was at 48 percent.

 

Soybeans emerged was at 18 percent. Winter wheat headed reached 94 percent. Winter wheat condition was rated 11 percent very poor, 16 percent poor, 29 percent fair, 37 percent good, and 7 percent excellent.

 

Pasture and range condition was rated at 3 percent poor, 16 percent fair, 55 percent good, and 26 percent excellent.
