Fieldwork limited in weekly report

SPRINGFIELD – There were 2.8 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending April 16, according to the latest crop progress and weather report for Illinois.

USDA reports a statewide average temperature of 61.2 degrees last week, which is 10.0 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.85 inches, 0.24 inches below normal.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 4 percent short, 77 percent adequate, and 19 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 7 percent short, 81 percent adequate, and 12 percent surplus.

Corn planted was at 6 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 13 percent. Winter Wheat headed reached 3 percent. Winter wheat condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 20 percent fair, 60 percent good, and 14 percent excellent.

Oats planted reached 57 percent. Oats condition was rated 3 percent poor, 22 percent fair, 66 percent good, and 9 percent excellent.

Pasture and range condition was rated at 2 percent poor, 21 percent fair, 57 percent good, and 20 percent excellent.
